Think of it as a wonky, situational Pyroclasm.

Not every card in these decks could be a champion. =/

Actually, I think JWolps has a point. If they tried to make every card in a deck amazing there'd be A) an intense demand for the decks filled with completely awesome cards (more so than there already is) and B) there'd be nothing left for players to customize or improve.

I think they actually think through these things when they're deciding what to put in - the customization and improvement of decks is one of the core principles of the game, and leaving in some underwhelming cards gives less experienced players some guidance in the direction to start heading with that.

That being said, there's still no excuse for Slipstream Eel. =p

Actually, no, every card couldn't be awesome. That just wouldn't make sense. Wizards never makes preconstructed decks with nothing but awesome cards in them. For one, if they did, no one would buy booster packs because they could just get everything they need from precons. Two, they would likely have to price the decks higher because they give you more valuable and powerful cards. Three, bad cards are made so that good cards look that much better. If you made nothing but really powerful cards, there would still be a large number of cards that got unplayed for being the worst of those powerful cards.

Oh, and that last part, yeah. I'm going to go ahead and copy and paste it five times. Because it answers your question and you've only asked that question about as many times.

I don't really understand why they put cards like this in the decks.. They could've reprinted something that actually deserved it.

@JWolps - well, actually Wizards decided what cards go into these decks so yes, actually, almost every card could have been awesome. But they *decided* to put this in. Blame Wizards.

Ahh, Radiance at its finest.

I mean, it could be a one-sided Pyroclasm.

It could also deal only 2 damage to the targeted creature. For 5 mana.

And it targets, meaning it doesn't hit shroud or hexproof, and it is made entirely useless if your opponent is playing Asceticism.

Yes, all your points are valid. There's only been one pre-con deck that I know that barely needed any fixing, and it was the Vampire Onslaught Event Deck from M12. The only card I'd take out would be Vampire Outcasts, which ironically, was the art on the box.

@Magnor_Criol

Slipstream Eel actually works pretty well with the Mimeoplasm. Cycle it, then use it for counters/

Did it really have to cost 5? Okay this is very situational, but can be a one sided wrath verse weenie type decks. And for you to need to run it over pyroclasm, you would need to have 2 or less toughness creatures of different color then your opponent.
