Because Ironroot Treefolk was just too powerful. Seriously though, this was a decent blocker back in the day, and in lategame it provided players without Force of Nature something to pump that extra Fyndhorn Elder mana into. That said, this is terribly inefficient by modern standards.

God, I actually used to play with this card. Shortly after the set came out I had a horrible R/G deck with a couple of these. Actually, they were probably some of the better cards in the deck.
