Life gain decks really are making a comeback. Also, it's been a long time since seeing this card.

@Regal_Unicorn: That ability is generally considered a drawback. Large creatures like this are usually reanimated into play with a card such as Animate Dead. This stops any of that from happening. Desirable creatures like Emrakul and Progenitus have this same ability.
(If you really want to be pedantic about it, Progenitus' ability is actually slightly different in that it's a replacement effect and this one is a triggered ability)

The flavor text is somewhat redundant with the name of the card, but still, it's a solid beatstick if Akroma and Avacyn aren't your thing.

@Totema: Going by his comment on Bloodbraid Elf, I'm thinking the former.
@Trygon Predator: ...Please, don't tell me you forgot that mythic didn't exist during the Urza's Saga block. What place did they HAVE besides rare?

I actually gave this thing a Loxodon Warhammer in a multiplayer game, and I had a Rhox Faithmender
out at the same time. Needless to say, I ended an opponent a turn, ending the game in around a minute

I used to run this card in a W/G deck with Skyshroud Elf and Armadillo Cloak. I loved seeing the look on people's faces whenever I Cloaked the Avatar!

Comes down the turn after True Conviction in standard :) Find a way to give it hast to quadruple your life total, even if blocked. If it's not blocked, you should just win, period.

dude, just get a Loxodon Warhammer :)
and if you want, add also a True Conviction
so, let's say you're in 7 lives, attack once, and since Loxodon Warhammer and True Conviction life gain stack, and because of the double strike, with the first swing you'll be at 27 lives, now the avatar power is 30, and the second strike will gain you 60 lives... now you're in 87... in one attack xd... thats pretty funny...
now if you're at 87 and attack again (the next turn), how many lives will you gain? :>
This card is sooooo much fun in a lifegain deck :)

Amazing with Vizkopa Guildmage,
As you need 7 to pay for it you can give it lifelink and double your life in a turn, whilst making you're opponents lose that much life, in addition to the damage it deals.

Give it lifelink and double strike for maximum overkill.
