I wonder if we will ever get to see what Jadar looks like. Or any ghoulcaller for that matter. We haven't even seen Gisa or Geralf yet, despite them being two important storyline characters in Innistrad.

Should be a Bear Zombie (or Zombie Bear) and be called Grisly Bear

It's peculiar to see a reprint from a set in the same standard environment.
Oh, well, Black Bear is nice.

Handsome art and awesome flavor. As others have already said, these sort of basic and fundamental vanilla cards are actually an important part of the game, especially in core sets like this one. The game needs Grizzly Bears and Coral Merfolk; the most you can ask of them is excellent flavor and artwork, and this card has it.

Ten years ago this would have been an uncommon, or maybe a rare. At the very least it would have caused quite a stir among the Magic community. Nowadays, a vanilla 2/2 for 2CC that doesn't come with some extra ability--be it first strike, lifelink, etc.--just doesn't warrant much emotion at all. Interestingly though, for all the 'meh' this card has, its creation still leaves Red to be the only color lacking a 2/2 for 1X.

@Blackworm
What you are suggesting is completely out of the color pie, and even this card is a redefinition of a part of it. Arguably, this card symbolizes power creep, but at the very least it establishes Black's position in the color pie a bit more clearly. Green has always been a creature-centric color, and so has white (to a lesser extent, and more recently). This card shows that Black is now a creature-color. Red and Blue are not.
Black is not strictly a control color, see: Vampire Nighthawk and Phyrexian Obliterator
Red is not strictly an aggro color, see:Fork and Reverberate
The Pie is more complex than that.

@ MechaKraken
I think that they're leaving some of that stuff open for a future "Return to Innistrad" arc. Those people you listed were some legendary creatures that Infernox10 and I were also hoping to see from Avacyn Restored. It wouldn't surprise me if we dropped in on Innistrad again ^^
There seems to be a lot more that they could have printed there. Cards like Fear, Headless Horseman, and Bad Moon. Looking forward to the glorious return years down the road.
