brilliantmumbler: It also hits creatures. That's...kind of important. I can see this being playable in Limited, 5 damage to the dome is a nice finisher or it gets rid of a late-game fatty that's threatening you.

For Limited, I suppose Red might be able to utilize this as either a finisher or as creature removal. Outside of Limited, well, no one really played Lava Axe all that often and this is merely a marginally better version.

The difference between this and your ![Variable Colorless](/Handlers/Image.ashx?size=small&name=X&type=symbol)
spell of choice is when you cast this using something that says "cast an instant or sorcery without paying its mana cost", such as Epic Experiment.

Lava Axe? I think you guys mean Thunderous Wrath minus miracle. Because it pretty much is.

3.5/5.
5 damage for 6 mana isn't good. A limited staple for sure. Way too slow for constructed.

Eh, this kind of affect isn't really worth instant speed-increased mana pay off. Not bad, a balanced card if nothing else.

So basically it's Lava Axe but at instant speed and costs 1 more. Because there's such a demand for that. I suppose that occasionally red burn will use this as a finisher, particularly with Guttersnipe but there's just plain better burn around.

this is not a bad card BUT Boros GTFO of RTR and give me a relevant flavor to red in this expansion.
