Sealing your own draws is extremely painful. There's a reason Ivory Gargoyle (and the more recent Molten Firebird) have an option to remove themselves. And they're very similar cards, really. Sure you can choose not to re-cast the revenant, but then why use it? It definitely has its advantages (sometimes if it dies you WANT another flier, and then here he is), but giving your opponent the option to draw seal you should NOT be taken lightly.

Alright, time to look at how much I hate this card.

4 mana for a 2/2 flier is acceptable (generally only in limited) when it is stapled with a reasonable ability. Runewing and Bloodhunter Bat are recent examples of this.

A 2/2 flier isn't going to do much on its own. Chandra's Pheonix is about the top of the line in this case. It is 1 mana cheaper, recurs to your hand, and has haste. (I know I'm comparing to a rare, but there should be much less difference between a rare and an uncommon)

Dark Revenant, on the other hand, takes an extra turn to play with another needed to attack, and will completely screw up your card draw if it dies. If it dies, you may as well have taken an extra mulligan at the beginning of the game. I'm not going to tell you how important card advantage is, since there are many others who can do it better. Simply put, this card gives your opponent an easy way to gain card advantage over you. It makes... (see all)

In Limited it may be acceptable...
But if I'm in top-deck mode, and this guy clogs my top library card too much, I'm going to be ***ed.

Why does everyone rate this 0.5? 2/2 flier is on it's own pretty decent. And that it returns to top of the library when it dies doesn't make it worse. It trades well with alot of fliers.

Under the best of circumstances, this is a useful card. It's reliable and comes back even if you sacrificed it for an effect. On the other hand, unless you have extra drawing options, it'll slow down your momentum, especially if someone figures out how to use it against you. As it is, it's like one of the weaker phoenixes only in black and... oh my gawd, I just imagined a black-aligned phoenix. Wings like night and soulless, undead eyes...

... er, good card?

Wont be too bad if it had haste or even ETB/LTB effects

I hope you won't need it to block something bigger to survive.

Only good in a slower control game once you have stabilized, this tries to ensure that nothing stops you from stopping the win you have carved out.

Also, potential way to prevent mill if you can sac each turn?

This card sucked when it was Gravebane Zombie and it sucked when it was called Undying Beast but the real issue i want to address here is Lotsofpoopy. I am convinced he works for wizards and is being payed to make all their abortions look better. He comments on every card with his "pros like me" BS and says something nice about the card no matter how worthless and seeing his comment on this piece of trash was the last straw and i had to call him on it. Cards like this are totally useless unless you have a specific combo for them and all they do is lock down your deck. You would know that if you had ever played magic before with all of the pro friends that you have who sit around playing Giant Spider as their answer to flyers when playing green. The fact that you havent been banned by wizards from commenting on these cards is only proof that you either work for them or just get off on talking up all the crappy cards that are... (see all)
