@ClockworkSwordfish, @RAV004: See Rule 509.1h - A creature isn't considered an unblocked creature until after the Declare Blocker's step. It is also impossible to Ninjutsu until after the Declare Blocker's step, because a creature isn't considered unblocked until that point. To sum it up, this won't let you trade in combat!

You could choose not to block any of your opponents' creatures, activate the ability and then ping their biggest threats or use Carnifex Demon's ability to do a psuedo-board wipe.

The cheap cost, ease of casting, and fear make this good for Ninjutsu, and the ability can win you games thanks to all the evasion the Ninja deck has. 3.5/5 from me.

@ Ladon---, thanks for clearing that up for the others.

@ClockworkSwordfish, you're a little confused, this activation requires both Blue and Black, so mono-colored is not going to work there.

@Zaroganos it's a reprint of an old card. The reason they got rid of "Fear" in the first place was because the actual keyword only refered to and (typically) interacted with Black creatures. When they "removed" Fear, they basically wanted to make it for all the colors with one keyword ("Intimidate") that way the language for fear (Which was, no matter what color the card was, "can only be blocked by black and/or artifact creatures.", which is too specific to warrant it's own keyword. So, now we have Intimidate, "can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it", so that we can give it to all the colors AND it makes multi-colored cards w/intimidate more easily blocked (IE: Vela the Night-Clad)

Basically, turn any unblocked guy into a 4/1... (see all)

Note that it says each, not target, which might be the reason why it was included in Planechase, since it also affects creatures you don't control - well, aside from the fact that there's also Wizards' obvious intention that you use this ability with umblocked Ninjas.

You can always simply skip blocking and turn your opponents' creatures into fragile 4/1s, which can get pretty ridiculous with the right means to deal the damage (e.g. through Goblin Sharpshooter).
And it has yet another use on your opponents' turns - turning Timmy's fatties into 4/1s can save you a lot of trouble.

And the witch even has Fear (which in this case is more handy than Intimidate, too), so you'll get to use the ability on herself for a considerable boost in power.
Of course, this card is also potentially crazy with tokens.
Plus it is an easy to cast hybrid card. And it also has considerable tribal types.

Overall this looks like a nice card with awesome combo potential.

Really confused, why is this creature's fear (precursor of intimidate?) only count for non-black and non-artifact? Shouldn't it also count toward non-blue?

Buff your stuff, rescue you from incoming fatties, for 2BlueBlack? Sounds good.

Also, mono-blue and mono-black can play this and just admire its ability.

1: You can use it before declaring blockers, thus turning all of your opponent's shit into trades with chumpblockers

2: You can use it to turn /blocking/ creatures into 4/1 until end of turn, forcing a trade with whatever they choose to defend with.

3: I'd have prefered inkfathom infiltrator in the ninja precon, but this is ok I guess. Still a great card, but doesn't really fit.

This guy is so sneaky! I had Curse of Death's Hold on an opponent and he attacked with everything. I activated his ability (don't forget it works on your opponent's creatures!) and didn't declare any blockers. All his creatures went to zero; hello, board wipe. The same trick works great with the -1/-1 ability on Golgari Charm. Once you've done it a few times your opponent's will start bombing him because you can't be trusted when he's out. That's the mark of a great card to me.
