For those of us who couldn't (or still can't) afford dual lands, the Ice Age painlands opened up a whole new world of decks and color combos. I think there is a point in every magic players life where they realize that taking damage can be a good thing, and that gaining life by itself is quite pointless. Using these cards separates the newbies from the intermediate players, and they are crucial elements of any 2+ color deck back in the day (or today).
Also, the artwork is beautiful!

It's not that pretty. I mean, it looks nice, but it doesn't change the fact that its freezing cold out here.

While the artwork is a bit dated, I prefer it to the newer version.

Painlands....yeah, they're not bad. To be honest, they've been passed by so many times over it's sad. The biggest tickler for me is that they're Rares. They just are not that good- no, I'm not even listening to ''Dual Lands are always good!" arguments. These are EXACTLY where Uncommon Lands in the game should always have been.
Arabian Nights- no colored lands except City of Brass...which is nice at Rare. :)
Antiquities- no....colors. alright fine that was ONE special case. :P
LEGENDS- THIS is the big problem: they didn't include any good enough mana-fixing in, of all places, the first (and dare-I-say BEST) Multicolored Set Ever?! WHAT?
The Dark- Blood Moon and Red started to be a thing and some stuff here and there but....few good cards.
Fallen Empires- still no good lands.
