I really like the art on this card. Unfortunately, that's about the only positive thing I can say. As others have already mentioned, clearly this card is just begging to have flash.

At sorcery speed, he's not gonna protect a blocker or fizzle a removal spell. What's left? Pushing damage through and removing Auras.

If it had Flash, people wouldn't mock me for playing it in Commander.
I'm still going to, because *I* like the card personally, even the strangeness of the yellow aura (I like to think of it as a gold aura), and I prefer the flavor of this to Mother of Runes.
I comprehend that Mother of Runes is the better card, and it makes me sad when the card whose art and flavor I like better is less good than cards like Mother of Runes.
Also, I've decided that since I'm going to go super stupid overboard on breaking the Angels in my Kaalia deck, I should probably also look for underpowered cards I'm still willing to play to make the deck slightly less disgusting. Mother of Runes + Avacyn, for example, just makes me feel like I need to wash myself for thinking it. :p

Should have been better as a cmc3 card. Flash isn't such an issue for a common card, but mana curve is.

Regardless of whether this card has flash or not, it is still a very good card. Flicker him or utilize Alchemist's Refuge, to give him flash. But is flash that important for him, I mean most of the time you know what color you want to be protected from. Let's see
1. Any mono deck, well..... I think we can figure that out.
2. Any two color control deck, ... the non-blue color, will probably be the dangerous, color,
3. Red and ....., just choose red.
4. Black and .... same thing, just choose black.
5. Alright black and red. You got me, that would be the only hard choice, but then you can use your alchemist's refuge.
