Better looking cards deserve better abilities.
And who cares about what the card does? How about anyone who plays the game?

You guys don't seem to realize that this can put your Chimney Imp right back in your hand the turn after you played him!! And it can get rid of your opponent's Storm Crow, since that'll be the only thing they're playing!

Originally designed as returning your creature from the graveyard to the battlefield. That proved to be more powerful than they wanted for this black common card in AVR, so they made your creature return to your hand. Apparently they didn't even bother to test the change or edit the mana cost and just printed it. Sickening.

Terrible design. It's an edict conditioned on a disentomb with an extra CMC +3 thrown in -- and at sorcery speed??!!! It's not removal if you don't have a creature in the yard. It costs too much for either the return creature to hand, or sac effect to be useful. The card basically defeats itself. Honestly, I think this is the worst card I've ever seen.
Love the art.

Love the art! Love the ability. Too expensive and a sorcery...

@lorendorky
Just because a card is common shouldn't mean that it has to be terrible.
Just look at Doomed Traveler or Delver of Secrets or even Lightning Bolt.
This card would have been perfectly reasonable at 1BB or 2BB and a sorcery, putting it at 6 mana is a travesty.
But honestly, who cares about what the card does, the art is gorgeous.

I'll restate my opinion from the forums: There is no excuse for printing this card at 6 mana. Cruel Revival allowed targeted, near-unconditional INSTANT-SPEED removal at 5 mana. It was printed in Onslaught (Back when removal was quite a bit worse than it is now), and it was still terrible. There is no excuse for Grave Exchange being so over-costed beyond "Bad cards need to exist, because we want new players to be unable to play their decks at FNMs due to all the terrible cards we slip into packs and precons."
