i played prerelease with izzet and splashed black. lost my first game and I looked through my cards again. I saw this guy, took out something terrible that didn't work that game, and stuck him in.
Finished 3-1. Every game I drew him early I won, because his 4 toughness at only 2 mana allowed me to stabilize from early threats (and there are a surprising amount of 1-3 power creatures). In one game my opponent got mana flooded when I dropped him early, then I killed his creatures and this finished him.

Super great for limited; Blocks centaurs all day and kills random bears.

Probably the best common for Izzet in limited.

Honestly, I like this guy a lot, even for standard.
With Aggro strategies becoming more and more popular, this guy as a 1/4 for two CMC gives any mid-range or control deck a way to survive (and kill) Gravecrawler and diregraf ghoul. Also it acts as a good constant blocker against Geralf's Messenger without having to kill the thing and trigger undying. Further it blocks centaurs and other Selysnia tokens. All in all I think this is a solid durdle card.
As for offense, it does provide some early game damage out put if your opponent is running low, and will win a race in certain circumstances.

Versatile card, big enough body to hold off any early threats (particularly useful with unleash), also capable of killing creatures much larger than it or dealing considerable damage if your opponent has a slow start. Solid 2 drop.

RU decks tend to be combo and damage based so having a creature with such good toughness for its cost early game and the possibility to swing for a lot later game makes this looklike a sleeper common to me.

No one really paid attention to this guy, and I never did either. Suddenly I felt the urge to put 4 of these in both my blue devotion deck and my red devotion deck.

Nice little "wall" to endure the first assoult of aggro decks, and can survive a lot of red board sweeps, like Pyroclasm, Volcanic Fallout, Slagstorm, so you can block with this and, after your opponent build quite an army to pass thought this Weird, you can sweep without losing your "wall". In some occasion, you could even attack with this, and deliver some damages...
So:
-can block and survive and/or kill the attacker
-can attack for 4
-can survive most common damage-based board sweepers
-it's a Weird!
I waited for so long for such efficient creature in {R/U}. I think it should deserve a little more love, even for constructed...
4.5/5

That... That is a really good base PT for mono-blue to have... The ability is just wicked.

Rather large for its casting cost and able to deal a bit more damage with mana spent. Better than it looks - neither red nor blue tend to get creatures this well-priced, and this thing can go in either color deck, or both.
