Marlo:
Pyromancer Ascension will not add a counter. Pardic Firecat's graveyard ability only applies to spells named Flame Burst; therefore, Pyromancer Ascension will still see it as a Pardic Firecat.

things that confuse me about this card.
1) this cat, which is made of fire, somehow counts as a flame burst? Because once its in your graveyard I guess its the same pile of ash that a flame burst would be? I dont get it from a flavor perspective.
2) why not reprint kindle instead of flame burst to begin with.

The flavor text is the key.

What!?
confusing text is confusing.
"flame burst deals damage equal to the under of flame bursts in all graveyards +2"
so when this is in your graveyard your flame bursts are 1bigger.
I haven't seen any more synergy made card then this (other then maybe camel).

I think it would have been a better card if it had less toughness.

This was in one of the first packs I opened when I moved beyond core sets, way back when I was starting MTG. As you can imagine, I read this card like "wtf?"

If it was a 3/2 maybe. At 2/3 for 4 mana, not tempting me to make a deck.

A 2/3 for 4 is just too weak - even in red, and even with haste - but I always did want to one day see that legendary 9-point Flame Burst.

@ thaviel - check out Diligent Farmhand/Muscle Burst from the same set... not sure if there was meant to be a cycle?
