Paying for it's casting cost is already horrible, why pay another 1U and discard a card to pay the casting cost AGAIN?

Man, fcuk this artist. Most of his art really does look the same. Baconradar wasn't kidding. They are all pictures of some freakey beast with its tongue sticking out, looking to the left side of the frame.

@thorjy You are looking at it all wrong, maybe he is the art department go-to guy when they want a creature sticking its tongue out to the left.
Creative Dept: "We need a picture of a creature sticking its tongue out and looking to the left."
Art Dept: "We need Wayne England, only he can do this task for us properly."

This is the only non-white Griffin in Magic. There are two Gold Griffins. Griffins are an almost exclusively white creature type.

Five-mana 3-power fliers are already great in limited, and this one saves itself from removal. Granted, it's not great for constructed, but this is one seriously underrated card.

I think a lot of you guys are forgetting about limited. Yeah, this guy sucks for constructed and/or casual, but he would have been a decent pick in draft or sealed- allowed you to save himself and get threshold easier.
