Why does it destroy non-wall creatures when in the foreground the acid seams to be eating away at a wall?

Try Gorgon Flail.
It happens to not be terribly overcosted. That, and it doesn't get trashed if the equipped creature dies.
And, you can change who it's equipped to during your turn.
To be fair, this one gives the wonky deathtouch at instant speed, so that's something.
