1 of each... But still. They picked good vamps for him. Would've liked more of his Innistrad kin though :P. I guess its true what they say: you can't go back

Though I think he was hated on Zendikar too...

I wonder if this, fleshbag marauder, and obsidian battle axe could make a good core to work off of.

getting a 2/2 and a sac'd creature for BBB isn't 5-star worthy, but it is definitely 4-star worthy.

@YuriLove333
"Combo him with the Mimic Vat in a creature removal deck.

If you're not into the sacrifice a creature type Vampire deck build just save a destroy spell and use it on the Gatekeeper to imprint on the Mimic Vat. It'll pay off each turn when you put a kicked Gatekeeper token onto the field and make you're opponent sacrifice somthing each turn."

That doesn't work. Just look at the reminder text for kicker:
"You may pay an additional B as you cast this spell."

Mimic Vat is does not cast the exiled card. It just puts a token copy onto the battlefield. Fleshbag Marauder and Mimic Vat would be a better pairing.

Or if you're into the sacrifice a creature type Vampire cards put a chump like Viscera Seer or Bloodthrone Vampire in to stop oponents from gaining control of your stronger creatures and you could use either one to just sacrifice the Gatkeeper and then imprint him on the Mimic Vat for lots of fun each turn

Also goes great with a dash of Blood Artist.

Good card. Not as amazing in my mind as some want it to be. BBB to force an opponent to sac a creature (their choice) is ok. A 2/2 for BB isn't good. Both is cool, but it's kind of a jack-of-two-trades, best-of-neither compromise. There are plenty of situations in which I'd just prefer a Terror or a better two drop creature.

I'd argue this guy IS a 5 star card – casting him turn 3 is usually great for wrecking the average deck's tempo. My usual would be something like T1 Pulsetracker, T2 Sign in Blood, T3 Gatekeeper, T4 Feast of Blood, T5 Malakir Bloodwitch! Vampires were fun to run.
