Tome Scour Guy does look like the kind of guy that would make jerk comments like that. He's just got that face.

Although I'm happy this came back, JSSarfin is right: the falvour text doesn't sound like the usual arrogant mage.
Like Force Spike, any variation of Counterspell (Tempest version is one of favourite), Mind Sculpt...
I mean, the Tome Scour guy is trying hard to sound cool and awesome, but all he sounds like is a Goblin.

Tome Scour is basically Lava Spike but for a mill deck. It doesn't affect the board state, it results in card disadvantage every time, and for it to be good, you need many effects that can do the same thing as this card in your deck. In Lava Spike's case, you have cards like Lightning bolt and Chain Lightning which manage to serve more purposes and smooth out the decision making process. As for Tome Scour, a bunch of cheap mill cards aren't often going to get you there because they are all very slow.
If you want to win through mill-out, its easier to go for repeatable sources of deck damage, or a one-shot combo.

Why does everyone look at this and see "Mill 5 for 1 mana!" and not "Mill 5 for 1 mana and 1 card?" Which is the reason this card is trash compared to Glimpse the Unthinkable, Mind Sculpt, Breaking // Entering, etc. The thing is spending the card to cast this is a significant resource, it's the difference between killing them on turn 4-5 vs. turn 7-8, at which point control decks have stabilized, and aggro decks outpace you. This card is only worth even giving a second glance in limited, and even then only when you can get several of these AND can get several other supporting mill cards.
In conclusion, the only things you should be scouring are thoughts.
1.5/5, okay in limited but only with a lot of support, otherwise useless. There's a reason it's never seen constructed play.

I liked the old flavor text better.
This one just feels like a forced joke.

Agreed. Breaking the fourth wall, or at least hanging on it, doesn't always make for a good line.

I think this card is a little bit overpowered.
1 mana for 5 cards? Sounds good.
Compare this card's rating and value to Glimpse the Unthinkable. This is half effect of it, with half the mana. And its only blue! Not blue-black!
Plus, this one is still standard.

This card is a trap for newer players. They think that by putting the top five cards of their opponents library into the graveyard they have essentially nullified those threats, but in truth the actual impact that this card has outside of a mill deck is shuffle their library because it doesn't increase or decrease the chances of drawing the right card.
Even in a mill deck it mills a paltry five cards, which is definitely not worth your time.
1.5/5
