Hmmm, let me think...
How many Merfolk DOES it take to screw in a lightning bulb?

A creature when you need it to be. Removal when you need it to be. Max value is when you use it to bash in a few times and then take something out.

the merfolk are apparently worshippers of the Keranos, God of Storms ? (calling it!)
I wonder if Temple of Storms will be underwater. :)

The extra point of toughness lets him sneak past all those 2 power first strikey creatures. And then you can blow him up to eliminate small threats or for two extra points of damage: I like it.

I know it was a sac effect for power-level & limited reasons, and as part of the offcolor-sacrifice cycle (with Satyr Hedonist & Priest of Ironas)... but the flavor is fantastic - A merfolk using lightning magic underwater, deals damage but electrocutes itself in the process.

A decent body for Limited - at worst this is a perfectly playable Blind Phantasm that will buy you some time, and his expensive Shock is icing on the cake. The threat of removal makes this an interesting choice - and he can also use his ability to force through an extra 2 to the dome if the game is close. All in all a good Limited common.
