Based on the name and mechanic, I guess these are Thassa-allied sirens. Their song brings inspiration rather than confusion. The flavor is odd but not necessarily bad, with a little imagination.
Its hard not to agree that the siren creature type is being used a little fast and loose in Theros, though.

What is this lack of flavor in sirens you're all complaining about?
We have a siren that gains control of other creatures.
We have a siren who forces creatures to throw themselves into the sea.
We have a siren who causes memory loss and dazed thinking.
The idea that sirens should be fishlike is okay, but it's just your idea. I've always thought that sirens should look like bird-women, and Wikipedia confirms that all early depictions were some combination of birds and women.
The idea that sirens should hunt in a flock is made-up too. In the Odyssey, there are exactly TWO sirens. Other writers say there are other numbers but name each one. And that complaint is doubly stupid because Theros sirens do live in groups! Look at the picture on THIS PAGE. LOOK RIGHT THERE.
I get mad when someone says "Nice try Wizards", but it's not a big deal. I overreacted.
