If you have a Wasteland Viper (or Agent of the Fates, Archetype of Finality, Baleful Eidolon, Deadly Recluse, Deathgaze Cockatrice, Hythonia the Cruel, Keepsake Gorgon, Korozda Gorgon, Liliana's Reaver, Master of Cruelties, Maze Abomination, Sedge Scorpion, Sluiceway Scorpion, or Thrill-Kill Assassin) on the field, this becomes a red Doom Blade that can kill any targetable creature.

Fall of the Hammer compares favorably to Blood and Pit Fight. If that Gruul devotion/monstrous deck becomes competitive, I'm sure this will see standard play with Xenagos, God of Revels... (see all)

Essentially, this is a one-sided, instant-speed, Red Prey Upon for 1Red.

In limited with things like Baleful Eidolon or Sedge Scorpion, it's basically just a kill spell.

Even without Deathtouch, you can use this on your First Strike creature when your creature didn't have enough power to kill a certain creature (since damage goes away at the end of turn). There have been many times when I combo'ed this with Rise to the Challenge.

Also, this works with Heroic. Dealing 6 damage to a creature while also being able to give 3 +1/+1 counters to your Centaur Battlemaster for 1Red is game-changing.

As much as I'd like to not bring too much attention to this card (since I've noticed people don't draft these that often), this card should be early-picked.

With all the firebreathing and +X/+0 in red right now (Thunderous Might comes to mind) we've got a good chance of a hammer smashing in some face.

This + Agent of the Fates= opponent's out two creatures for three mana and one card. ouch.

I could be wrong on this one, but I think they were originally planning to create a cycle of instants that were essentially the effects of the gods weapons. All that seems to remain is this and Lash of the Whip.
