Remember that you pay on resolution so you'll never be blown out by a doomblade or what not.

@Lord_of_Tresserhorn
I feel that. I miss the RanCore Set.
This is gonna be nuts in EDH. Helix Pinnacle has a new friend.

T1 - Joraga Treespeaker
T2 - Level, Her, leave mana open for Vines of Vastwood
T3 - Rancor, add 3 counters, (mana for vines), swing for 6 trample.
T4 - Vines, add 4 counters, swing for 14 trample.
T4 KO with 4 cards; only 1 creature swinging.

Why does the badger get trample and not this? It could have been playable then.

Is that you, Bioshift? Are you calling out to me from the void of junk commons?

@Purplerooster: You pay on the resolution of the heroic ability, you mean? If you cast Indestructibility targeting this Hero and pump the rest of your mana into counters, Doom Blade can still kill her and waste your mana. Your opponent will need to use a conditional spell like Last Breath or Bile Blight before the ability resolves, but not Doom Blade.
The heroic ability resolves before the targeting spell resolves.

As a standard player, this card makes a very appealing 1-drop for aggro decks. The synergy between this and the Ordeal cycle is delectable.
Creativity over raw power is what makes a good deck builder.

@blurrymadness : your second turn is a little botched. It costs 2 to level Joraga; so you're tapping both your lands to do this. Then you can tap the Joraga for GG, and you can use one of them to cast the Hero... but that other mana is now in your mana pool; you can't 'leave it open' for a Vines of Vastwood beyond the end of your main phase. If your opponent wants to bolt your Hero, they'll just wait until your end step when you have no mana available, rather than try to do it during your main phase while you have a G floating.
