I've always loved this card. Ophidians are cool.

Interesting that it doesn't have actual deathtouch.
I can see ways where this card can be broken.

Man these decks are just loaded with first-time reprints, I love it.
Like Vraska's Slate Street Ruffian, the Viper here is bound to cause some hard blocking decisions for the other player. The only difference is that the Viper does it so much better. Even without full-fledged Deathtouch, you can be swinging in with this guy almost every turn and expect good results because all of Jace's creatures with more than 2 power are bound to be valuable assets to his deck's operation. I'm serious, Jace has next to no 3 power chump blockers to take the Viper out with.
So what does that mean? It means that the Viper is either drawing you cards, or tearing Jace's field apart. Either way, this makes Vraska a happy gorgon.
More than worthy of a rare slot.

I don't think WotC knows what being cold-blooded actually means.

@MrMonday - that is because this needs combat damage. it will not destroy the creature in a Pit Fight

An unexpected but very welcome reprint.
(Which is also why it doesn't use deathtouch — Coldsnap came before the keyword.
And even then, since it's a 'lost set' with 'nostalgic functionality', odds are it wouldn't have used it either way.)
Being a Snow Creature, I didn't expect a reprint anytime soon.
I totally forgot about the possibility of a new version within Duel Decks.

Probably my favorite card out of both decks. I love deathtouch like Mechanics. And this makes it even better. Sure it doesn't count non combat damage, but your opponent has to choose. Lose a creature, or give you a card and take damage. I like that.
@MrMonday Deathtouch was introduced in Future Sight as a keyword mechanic. Before then there was only pseudo deathtouch (well not really pseudo deathtouch as deathtouch didn't exist, but you get what I mean). There were a fair amount of cards with similar effects.
