Ah, I recall comparing these to Hill Giants back in the day and wondering, "Wait, why does red get the wimpy version of this card?" Not that much has changed in that regard!
Not a bad card back then, flat out inferior to many cards today. Still, if one of these showed up in Limited, I'd draft it or play it for the Trample.

Having a mammoth as a mount would be sweet as hell. I wish I had my own War Mammoth; perhaps genetic engineering could solve that problem.

It's not why he has trample, it's how come there are elephants in MtG that doesn't have trample.
