Just the one damage would be first strike, but that can be just enough if you play it right.

@Zinniz, there's no rule that says that creatures in a band must all deal their damage at the same time. If you have a band with first strikers and non-first-strikers, then the first strike creatures will deal their damage, and then the other creatures, just like always.

I don't know why this is rated that low, 1/1 first strike for 2 isn't horrible, then you get the banding, which if you know how to use it could be good, I'm not positive if the band has first strike or if just one damage would be first strike.(?)

I guess people see banding in the text box, say "screw it" and rate this a 2.

actually the first strike would only br present if the creature it was banding with had first strike as well. so its either no first strike or all first strike.

Banding can work wonders. As a joke i made a deck that made use of unpopular cards and mechanics, such as banding and flanking (this was many years ago), and the deck that resulted was amazingly good. The deck wasn't very good, but it was pretty good, which amazed me. I recently dusted it off against an Ichorid deck and lost, but it was close. Everyone who has seen my banding deck has been impressed.
If you haven't made a good banding deck, why don't you try? Mechanics like Shadow are easy. Banding is less obvious. Many knock banding (and it is comparatively complex), but it is a fun alcove to explore.
This card is an easy 3.5/5.
