This is a very nice card to combo with enchantments that give creatures the ability to tap and put a creature into play.

Doesn't combo very well with elemental mastery. If you're using EM to put 4 creatures into play, you can still only untap the Legionnaire once; EM's effect has to fully resolve before you can put anything new on the stack. There are cheaper ways to untap it once per turn.

@Soulcakeduckling: How is an infinite combo that'll win you the game on the turn it goes off "doesn't combo very well"? You tap him to make an elemental, the elemental coming into play causes him to untap. You wait for the untap trigger to finish resolving, and then do it again. And again. And again. Then you attack with all of them. It's not just once per turn.

And even if you already had the Elemental Mastery on some other creature (with a higher power), it still untaps it multiple times. When the tokens (let's say there are four of them) come into play, the Legionnaire's ability triggers and goes on the stack four times. Tap him to lock something down, then wait for one of the triggered abilities to resolve and untap him. Then tap him again, and wait for the second one to resolve and untap him again, and so on.

Goblin Sharpshooter also has the same trigger as him. Obviously in conjuction with a more synergizing activated ability, but it's still a good trigger.

Pyrostatic Pillar for example is also a famous sideboard choice that triggers under the same circumstances. I admit it's more efficient since it causes damage immediately and red or black can hardly respond to it since it's an enchantment.

But in the case of Sunstrike Leginnaire, you can also run many spells with low cost without any problems - they can even help you untapping the Leginnaire.

This guy proved to be surprisingly efficient against Goblin decks. Only downside is his 2 toughness, so he doesn't find much use as a blocker the turn it still has summoning sickness.
But haste doesn't help Goblins much in their valuable first turns if a creature they cast also means a creature gets tapped. Goblin Incinerator or Tarfire screw your plans though. U... (see all)
