Preview card for Scars of Mirrodin, Sylvok Replica, is a combination of this and Goblin Replica with a cheaper activation cost.

Not strictly worse than Sylvok Replica since the elf creature type is not insignificant.

Filler for an elf deck.

Glissa Sunseeker: Destroys artifacts
Tel-Jilad Archer: Protection from artifacts
Tel-Jilad Chosen: Protection from artifacts
Viridian Shaman: Destroys an artifact
Elf Replica: Destroys an enchantment
GENIUS. And then Sylvok Replica came along with its hip new Naturalize ability, completely outmoding both Elf and its friend Goblin Replica.

Guys, this is not strictly worse than Sylvok Replica, even in loose terms. It's a 2/2 and Sylvok is a 1/3. Furthermore, this gives elf decks some enchantment removal without substituting a creature slot for a spell like Naturalize, and can be used with recursion tricks like Unearth and the like.
It's not horrible. A 2/2 for is below the curve, but it provided some flexibility in limited, both as a body for any deck, as even nongreen decks can use it as a low draft pick. Also, it's important to note that back then, damage used the stack, so you could deal your 2 damage before using its ability to destroy something.
