Bad idea: affinity for artifacts

Stupidly broken bad idea: affinity for artifacts alongside artifact lands. In the same set.

Has there ever been an article explaining what good impact WotC thought these would have?

I'm hoping it wasn't just - "Check this out... It's an artifact AND it's a land. Genius, huh?"
