Typically allows for your creatures to slip through unblocked, although it is also of use in a Shadow deck. It can let you block attackers if you need to, and also opens up opposing creatures to Dauthi Cutthroat.

This card should be a staple in any EDH deck that runs black. Absolute best way to get your general through for a quick kill, or get other creatures through to set off abilities. Also helps with politics, since you can target other players' creatures with it.

A staple for shadow decks, and a great card besides. Lets your shadow guys block and lets you give any creature nearly-unblockable. Plus combos with cards like Dauthi Warlord, Dauthi Jackal and Dauthi Ghoul. Even outside of shadow decks though, it lets you turn your big creatures into unblockable beasts.
Furthermore, you can run 4 Maze of Shadows in your deck along with this card and stop your opponent's creatures from attacking you.

EDH hidden gem of the day 2/4/2011
Dauthi Embrace is a very powerful card for the decks that wish to go either mono black or strictly two colors. It functions as either offensive or defensive. Don't want a creature to block? Give it shadow, don't want your Korlash blocked? give it shadow! it also combos amazingly well with Dauthi cutthroat. Although in EDH that may not be that profitable.
Overall i'd give this card on the sliding scale of 1-10 on playability a solid 7, and for mono black decks it jumps to a 9, about as close to an auto include as you can get It isn't Sensie's Divining Top after all...
