Cycling is best on larger creatures like this. If you have him in your opening hand where you don't need him, you can discard him. Or in some reanimation deck you can as well discard him, draw a card out of that, and reanimate him later.

How come this is rated lower than Mahamoti Djinn? Same casting cost, one less on toughness, but ability to change the card if you don't need it.

Majinara: I think Urza's Saga pre-con decks indeed included this card for that purpose. If I remembered corruptly it was a blue/black reanimation deck.

@tavaritz: A couple of theories:
1. The extra point of toughness means Mahamoti Djinn survives swatting Shivan Dragon (without the pump), Rathi Dragon, and creatures like them out of the sky and lives to tell about it.
2. Mahamoti is simply more famous, and printed more often. People have more fond memories of it.
3. Paying 
for him not to fly away, when you are trying to save mana to counter, is not optimal.
