The priest appears to be female and the rules say, "he counts himself since he is an elf." Amazing card though

At the time this comment was posted it is the highest rated elf on Gatherer at 4.812. A close second was Elvish archdruid, M2010. Cool beans.

Inexplicably common, and like many cards in Urza block, better with time.

likely one of the most useful mana ramp cards for elves, if not the best. usually getting 3+ mana at least, every turn, for 2 mana, very nice. 5

I think it's clear that Urza's Saga was a time when Wizards of the Coast thought it would be a great idea to get high while designing cards. Really... what were they smoking?!

They live in Gaea's Cradle and love to fuel Killer Bees and Hurricane s, occansionally they will stumble across a Staff of Domination for extremely over the top ass kickings and angry grumbles from your opponents.
5/5 ... this card is waaaaayyyyyy to good for a 2cmc common. Im just glad i was playin in Urzas

@MrBarrelRoll: Elvish Archdruid has two potentially significant drawbacks compared to this card
1) The Archdruid cost 3CMC whereas this costs 2CMC
2) The Archdruid only counts your elves, while the Priest counts all elves on the battlefield
If you're playing a straight Elf Tribal deck then you'll probably want the Archdruid just for the +1/+1 boost it gives all your Elves, but if you're mostly concerned about mana ramp then the Priest comes out faster and potentially for more.

O_o
Wow
Casting a turn 4 Emrakul is not only possible in Elves, it's likely.
Heck, even if it's the only Elf you control, it's ok, but once you get multiples of Priests or Archdruids out, the mana just hit obscene amounts.
