Ah, shield mate. I used to run 4 of these in a soldier deck, used its ability in almost every game. It proved quite useful.

Not terrible, but Benevolent Bodyguard gets my vote for this type of creature.
Mother of Runes has some down-time, but is extremely powerful once you get past the initial turn.
Neither will protect against Ghostfire though!
