Plunge into Darkness single-handedly makes Near-Death Experience playable. Plunge into death, emerge into victory. It doesn't even matter what you found.

This could be handy when someone nukes the board.

Use with living end/death, sacrifice any creatures you have to gain life, then get them all back anyway. nice.

Agreed...except that it can matter what you found, if you were digging for a copy of Angel's Grace in order to survive the lethal Lightning Bolt that you will soon find directed straight to your face, either as soon as Plunge into Darkness resolves or immediately before Near-Death Experience's trigger gets a chance to resolve. You can only hope (A) that you will manage to dig deep enough to find a copy of Angel's Grace, (B) that your opponent lacks the appropriate cards or the necessary mana to burn you both during his end step and at the beginning of your upkeep, and finally (C) that you are actually looking for a second copy of Angel's Grace, because we all know that your opponent will always have both the second burn spell and the mana to cast it.
So yeah, Plunge into Darkness is ... (see all)

One of the pillars of my deck.
As you know sacrificing a creature doesn't always have to be something negative.
That's why I use this card in combo with Butcher of Malakir.
If I have 3 Butchers in game and if I sacrifice only one of my creatures, the opponent has to sacrifice 3 of his creatures. Then I use Death Denied to put the sacrificed creatures back into my hand. And if these are creatures with kicker & multikicker abilities, I can (multi)kick them all over again :). For instance Bloodhusk Ritualist and Gatekeeper of Malakir. And if I have Lim-Dûl the Necromancer ingame I can get control of the creatures my opponents sacrifices. This only my midgame/lategame strategy though.

Pay 50 life and you get a demonic tutor that exiles your library after it resolves! WOOT!!

Crazy card, both effects are a lot more advantageous than you'd expect. Sac-ing creatures isn't always bad, and losing life isn't always bad.
And even better at instant speed with Entwine. This card is probably one of my faves from the Mirrodin block just due to how much thought has to be put into using it.
