I like to think of it as X: Gain X life (X is in multiples of 2). Kinda weaker than the nurterer from Shadowmoor...but still quite good with some weird combos like heartstone (since it'll be a creature after the first activation) or Terra Eternal...

I think AXER wasn't necessarily talking about the fact that this card used to read "gains lifelink until end of turn" for some time.
The Oracle states "its controller gains that much life", not "you gain that much life", as printed on the card. One might think that this makes a major difference when considering that you could cast this on an opponent's plains.
But in fact it does not make any since this phrase is considered to be part of the textbox for the enchanted creature, therefore refers to the creature's controller.

after M10 rules: "it's like before only we didn't make it lifelink so that it could still stack. Well, that's how we tryed to make it playable..."

Good blocker, decent lifegain, the fact that the lifegain ability is stackable meens this could be a powerfull lifegain engine with some creature-pump.

It's always neat to see a mistake. What do I mean? The rules team gave each of the genjus abilities; and you'll note that none of them really stack meaningfully except this guy; which is likely an oversight.
In pauper I imagine this guy is the equivilent of a batterskull; as he's a large amount of lifegain, you can't just kill it as it'll come back, and it's a pain to get rid of. (Some pauper decks allow a few uncommons.)
