Why were they so determined to keep soulshifters costed so high? It's not like they put the other creature into play and it had to be in the grave already so I don't see why a 4 or 5 CMC creature couldn't have soulshift 6.

@Mode: The {2} is to give players more choice of stuff to soulshift into (since soulshift is always one less that the creature's cmc).
However, this doesn't exactly make it any better. They should've given the expensive soulshifters to green and made them high on p/t and kept black at low cmc with sac-effects to easier get you back your cheaper creatures.

Somewhat powerful to reanimate in an Iname, Death Aspect EDH, as once a notable spirit (like Midnight Banshee >_>) bites the dust, you can sacrifice this guy to kill something and recur the banshee.
