What if I don't have a middle name?
Then you can't activate it to give it untargetability and your opponent can never activate a Moniker Mage they control to give it flying.

How do you do an honesty check with this? The opponent doesn't know if you are being honest and even if you say their middle name (guess James or something common like that) whats to stop them from saying you got it wrong?
Guess it just has to come down to trust.

@divine_exodus - It's actually 'Toggo'. You may note other Magic-related names (Jaya, Karn, Kookus), so you shouldn't be surprised to see Squee and Toggo there (he's mentioned on one or two cards...Firefright Mage).

Actually the ability is never activated if you get the name wrong because all the costs aren't paid -the ability is never considered as far as the game knows. This means that either you activate a mana ability that produces blue before you activate it and so you still have blue after you don't activate it, or you activate the mana ability as you try to activate this creature's ability, and so fail to activate the ability when you don't pay the saying opponent's name cost. This means that you can activate the ability as many times ad you like until you get it right.
601.2. ... If, at any point during the casting of a spell, a player is unable to comply with any of the steps listed below, the casting of the spell is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that spell started to be cast.
Just tap your island as you activate the ability and then you have infinite tries.

You guys are working far too hard for this.
Until there is errata that says otherwise, the abilities can be activated simply by paying the mana cost and saying, "your middle name" or "an opponent's middle name."
