Funnily enough, some cats can survive this guy's ETB ability, and live to express their lack of enthusiasm! Then next turn, the cat kills him.

Now there is a version called blisterstick shaman, who for an extra colorless has an additional power. I am not sure which is better, probably depends on the curve of the deck.

The artwork for ravnica kinda reminds me of the sorcerer's apprentice

Is it just me or the does the guy kinda look like ben stiller? I Picture a movie with ben stiller called the sparkmage apprentice where he messes up a bunch of science labs and stuff.

Meh. I'd rather run Forge Devil nowadays. But I bet this used to be pretty good in Limited.

@ Paupercubist: If both you and your opponent are at one life, this will kill your opponent and not you, while Forge Devil will kill you and not your opponent. Is that worth the markdown?
I agree that won't happen often, but my point is, this is simultaneously more versatile and less painful than Forge Devil, for just one mana more.
