I don't see why people seem to hate it so much, its a decent miller that's bulky enough to avoid death by Lightning Bolt or other lesser damage spells or "Target creature gets -x/-x" until end of turn spells or abilities, there are ones that can still get it I know, but he has more survivability then the so far other mentioned apparent better Millers on the page.
Unless you are going up against White, then your all out of luck against Whites Exiles.

I think it would be O.K. to drop to and give him Defender. I play him nevertheless as he is, just because of being a better Millstone with legs and fitting the manacurve before Belltower Sphinx comes online. Sometimes it hurts, seeing that your opponent can do much better with four mana but he is often a valuable roleplayer in the Dimir deck, responsible for the last few cards of the opposing library (certainly all casual considerations here).

I'd prefer Drowner adept or Carthritic adept for milling nowadays, but the extra toughness is nice. A bit pricy, though.

Casting cost should be dropped by 1. Or give it Defender and drop it by 2.

This guy was a good pick in Ravnica drafts.
