@GainsBanding: It's a very small thing, but the original wording would also technically stop an opponent's spell which is something like "Target creature deals damage equal to its power to its controller." Lord knows when that would actually come up, but the point is that the creature, as printed, doesn't quite work the way it's intended. I agree the Oracle text is clunky, but then the same is true of a lot of old cards sadly.

But if I took control of the original it would have damaged me as it wasn't summoned on my turn. The Oracle worded doesn't do that.

@tavaritz: That's because the oracle wording is based on the last printing, in Fifth Edition, which specified it as "having summoning sickness".

Fast and effective. The only real problem would be a "shut down" effect that left you taking damage each turn, such as Pacifism, though those effects were less common back than... Paralyze comes to mind, but that's about it.

Black used to be one of the best at going sped, and these Erg Raiders were actually a large reason why. The "drawback" of having to attack every turn was practically a non-issue, as you found that if you weren't able to keep your attack up then you probably already lost anyways. And that pretty much meant that Erg Raiders was a terribly undercosted 2/3 for only 2 mana.

I gotta say, the original card text is much clearer than the Oracle text, even if the new wording works better with all the modern timing rules.
