if you're counting artifacts, have a way to draw cards and often have a spare mana, it's ok

@Geishur: This card doesn't meaningfully combo with Phyrexian Arena, other than replacing the lost life at a cost of one mana.

Oh man, I have some memories of this thing. Back when I started playing (around Time Spiral, I think), my playgroup was... bad, to say the least. Suntail Hawk was pretty much an instant win, and Deep-Sea Kraken was unthinkably strong. This card was one of the best cards to have... other failures include not knowing what trample did, thinking Hex could target less than 6 creatures, thinking "Add {1} to your mana pool" was the same as "add one mana of any color to your mana pool," and thinking that Dark Ritual fetched three swamps. I'm glad we all started getting competent by the time we got to high school.
