I have no idea why this card is rated so lowly! Sure bloodthirst is a bit conditional, but you're still looking at a 2/2 for 1. It's not a vanilla 2/2 either, it has a nice form of evasion (which has synergies with cards like Rancor, Armadillo Cloak, Behemoth Sledge, etc.). To give you an idea about how efficient that is, look at Vampire Lacerator or Carnophage. 2/2 for 1 with a drawback.
This card is no Kird Ape or Wild Nacatl, that's for sure. However, it certainly should not be dismissed even if it is somewhat situational.

4.5/5 This is a good card for green to have. Conditional, balanced because you can't play it buffed on the first turn, and nice and flavourful. Good card design.

I got the original gruul deck, and put this in. I won a lot of games when this thing was suited up with wurmweaver coil. And I was the only one playing green. "Anyone else have a 7/7? didn't think so"

@Powereslave I think one of the reasons this card is rated lower than some is because it's a 1 mana creature that is not a true 1-drop. There are so many aggressive 2 mana creatures that this seems trivial and conditional, though people tend do to forget ability 2. It can be excellent in Warrior decks, as well as other casual deck archetypes, and is often a relevant creature even in the mid to late game under the right circumstances.

Good with Gut Shot and with Simic Initiate.

The only problem about people saying this is a 2/2 for 1 is that while this is technically true, it won't be the first turn of the game when all you have is one mana, and that is when that type of card is best. Despite that, I do love this card, as the evasion is great and there is nothing stopping you from somehow dealing damage on the second turn then dropping two of these babies out onto the field.

Immune to the chump blocker. Pump it up and you're set.

I was thinking he would be fun in a Green/white Exalted deck.

This card is awesome in a green creature deck, pump it up with stuff like blanchwood armor and canopy cover and it's set. Hugely underrated.

Green is the king of pump. Therefore this card is awesome.
