@Marcus_ At some point the counters are going to be placed on Fathom Mage so I think you are good. Would be the same issue if Doubling Season was in play.

I use it in a mana fetching blue/green deck with Plaxcaster Frogling, Gilder Bairn, Triskelion and Epochrasite. Triskelion + mana usually equals game over. Remember that it can be used in an emergency to simply tap out an opponent's creature.

Works with Cytoplast Manipulator also. It doesn't require you to put the +1/+1 counter on YOUR creature. It also means you can keep an opponent's creature tapped for as long as it exists. Very versatile.

3 and tap: tap target creature. it becomes chameleon colossus, but better because the boost stays around, untill end of turn. oh yah, and put a +1/+1 counter on it.

What? No, this is for Mycoloth, Protean Hydra, etc. Far too expensive, though.

I hate seeing Training Grounds being spammed on the discussion page of every card with any sort of activated ability that costs mana, but this card actually IS a good combo with Training Grounds. Because the ability doubles each time and doesn't require tapping, you can quickly get an absurd number of counters on any creature.
Completely useless as far as competitive is concerned but a fun combo for casual.
