such a good cheap classic reanimation. Has one of the best reanimation names ever, but probably wont be around too often anymore, because of troublesome clunky templating of an effect that is intuitively grasped by even the newest player. its funny that ass and cum are getting censored in the middle of words

Animate Dead is a classic. The -1 power loss is nothing compared to its cheap CC and enormous versatility.

I find it funny that that both the Revised backward and the Fifth Edition forward styles of templating this thing are reduced font size monstrosities, but for completely different reasons. If it weren't for the fact that "enchant dead creature" doesn't really work out that well, most of the complication in the Revised wording is spelling out things that are now simply covered in the rules. Only the first sentence actually matters, though it'd be split into two.

Animate Dead is a keystone of reanimator decks. These decks circumvent a creature's casting cost by bringing the creature directly into play from the graveyard, rather than hard-casting it from one's hand. Animate Dead is one of the best reanimators, as it has a low casting cost, and no upkeep. The only real drawback of Animate Dead is the -1/-0 it gives the creature. But this is negligible when you consider that you can get a creature of any mana cost into play for just 1B. Most decks that use Animate Dead also use spells to get creatures into one's graveyard faster, like Buried Alive and Entomb.

Very effective reanimation with not much of a draw back. Combos well with putrid imp to get your big creatures to the graveyard fast.
