I thought the white blob was part of the explosive wrath.... :(

I always wondered why the colossal explosion this creates has no effect on players.

I'm pretty sure the white sphere represents God's wrath, as opposed to God itself.

50th Vote! :D
This is such an iconic spell that it still retains a 4.95 average on Gatherer, making it one of the very highest rated cards ever. Type in "Rating > 4.95", and the results will fit nearly on one page. All the other ones tend to be "Laundry List" cards that you see all the time in Vintage, sometimes in Legacy if they aren't BANNED, and NEVER anywhere else because they're too old. This has a directly functional reprint in Day of Judgement and we get to play with it in Standard all the time. Probably the most powerful card, on average, that you or any of your friends own, unless you're a big collector that does history on "Broken Stuff that Made History".

Man, some of the best art to come out of 7th. So clean, and FINAL.

@ttian: Oh, bless ye of simple mind. The reason that our Lord is represented as is is because any human mind would be shattered like porcelain by the sheer wonder of our Lord's true form!
@VoidedNote: While I'm not any longer what you would designate a "religious nut", I still think it's much more appropriate to not depict any such abstract hypothetical entity and leave their specific appearance entirely up to the individual, which seems much less cheesy in my mind than a giant translucent face, as seen in the original illustration.
To conclude, it's one of the very few good seventh edition illustrations. =P
