His nickname is Tom.
See the 'Latest Developments' artical 'Tom-Shifted' for details. And learn what 'Tom' became Development shorthand for. May many more Toms enter Magic in the future.

Yes. To be specific, EVERYTHING that was considered tricky or manipulation was blue, which is part of the reason blue was so incredibly overpowered. That and the fact that instants and sorceries as a whole were much better whereas creatures were much worse. (Quick! Name three Alpha instants or sorceries played in vintage tournaments today! Now try and name 3 Alpha CREATURES. Yeah)

According to the "color pie" direct damage is strictly red. Back when Magic was new, the color pie existed but wasn't as well defined, which led to all sorts of interesting cards that wouldn't be printed today, like Psionic Blast.

This card was always meant to be red. I'm glad to see that they not only brought it over in Planar Chaos but then decided to keep it that way in the core sets.

Just as Prodigal Sorceror's art reminded others of 'Tim' (or 'Timmy'?) from Monty Python, Prodigal Pyromancer's art reminds me of Hotstreak from the 90's Static comic series or the Static Shock cartoon based on it. (If he had Flash, he would be the comics version.)
Hotstreak was more fun during the Time Spiral block for red-blue players. There they could mix-and-match TS's Tim with PC's Hotstreak for random 1 dmg. pinging not limited to any one color.

Prodigal Pyromancer: "Learn to burn!"
Prodigal Sorcerer: Wait, I thought pinging was our thing.
Prodigal Pyromancer: "Learn to yearn!"
Prodigal Sorcerer: But it was ours before it was y--
Prodigal Pyromancer: *cremates the Sorcerer* ... "Learn to urn."

Don't like this flavortext, but the border on this one is really cool!
