We have over ten thousand blades, and they're all killing soldiers.

Faeries are lucky that it wasn't reprinted since 7ed.

SUPER_ROBO_NINJA, if your opponent plays Engineered Plague and chooses "vampire," your Vampire Hexmage will enter the battlefield as a 1/0 creature and be put into the graveyard immediately upon resolving before you have a chance to activate its sacrifice ability UNLESS it comes into play with a +1/+1 counter on it or a static +1/+1 boost (such as from the effect of Bad Moon).
See Force of Savagery for a similar example.

Powerful, but occasionally very obnoxious. Almost as obnoxious as the grin of the guy who insists on playing only his Plague deck against the young'uns tribal swarm decks... yes, we have one of those guys in our area.
And no, it isn't me, before anyone suggests anything :p

If my opponent plays this can I play Vampire Hexmage and immediately sacrifice it?

The ultimate bane of weenie token decks. Excellent flavor, excellent card.

This is such a good card in legacy. It forces an almost instant scoop against the B/W Humans, elf decks, and goblin decks that run around. It can shut down the nimble mongooses and delvers of RUG Delver before they get big, stopping the deck's early game. It can even be of use against blue or esper control decks by naming wizard, being able to kill off Snapcaster Mage, Vendillion Clique, and Dark confidant. My favorite sideboard card in legacy and a really underrated card.
