White has always been known for its defensive combat tricks, and Death Ward was one of the first such tools in white's arsenal. A couple of Death Wards on your Veteran Bodyguard could be extremely frustrating to an aggressive opponent. White always had more intimidating instants (Righteousness, Reverse Damage, Eye for an Eye), and even at the common rarity it was more often passed up for Healing Salve, but not a bad card by any means.

This card is actually a pretty epic. The number of times I've used it to randomly save a creature is amazing. Really useful against a Day of Judgement or similar that protection doesn't help with.
