3/2 for 
CMC is average.
In black it is above average.
It also has a useful creature type.
It's a vanilla creature.
That's why people don't like this card.
Well that and there isn't much zombie support out lately.

I only play Barony Vampire because this guy looks stupid in comparison. Looks like zombies drew the short straw for looks.

yeah this is probably one of the strongest zombies(let alone black creatures) for only 3 mana. they're usually a 3/1 or 2/2 for 3 mana. *spined basher, scathe zombies*

Yes, I think this card is just one toughness away from being good.
Also with zombie goliath it is not a good card because it is one colorless mana too expensive.
