Incredible against infect decks, and a bomb in limited play. This will keep your opponents early infect creatures of the field while metalcrafting up. And it will loose you friends.

When you cast an artifact you get a one-time chance to pay {1}. If you do, he pings for 1 damage. The ability that you are describing would read something like:
Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may pay {X}. If you do, Embersmith deals X damage divided as you choose to any number of target creatures or players.

so once i play an artifact i can pay 1 as many times as i want? or just one per artifact played. i.e. i play one artifact can i then tap 10 mountain and hit my opponent with 10 life?
