Lots of fourth-edition rares sucked, and lots of fourth-edition commons were boss. It wasn't a bad time to be cracking packs, though pretty much everyone heard about all the awesome stuff from Revised they were missing and frowned.
The real "wtf" pack-cracks were Fallen Empires, Homelands, and to a lesser extent The Dark. Looking back on it, Ice Age had some truly awful rares, but at the time we were too excited about having an 11/11 creature to care about the drawbacks of Leviathan or Polar Kraken...
