Still holds his own in legacy after all these years. If you've never seen this guy in action, you've been missing out. Completely hoses combo decks after 2 hits, which isn't hard assuming you're playing duress/thoughtsieze/hymn in your hypothetical legacy deck.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of these guys back in the day and I love this art and the old card design; really wish we could go back to this style on day.
I don't play black much but when I do this is one of my favorite cards to include in my deck, and my opponents simply hate it.

TV Tropes' Swamps Are Evil page says it all: Tap, Ritual, Hypnotic Specter, GG? Though there have been riffs that are even better now. I imagine Sword of Feast and Famine is better.
Funny story: For a while, they banned this guy so they could keep Necropotence legal.
Thiss artwork is less lolwut than the new artwork too.

i agree with the other comments. this art was the shit. douglas schuler defined black for me as a young player. i dont even want to look at the new sets because the cards are so god damn hideous.
anyway, this card *** rules. every black deck should have 4. the only reason i've never played black vise is because hypnotic specter kicks so much more ass. 5/5

Love the somewhat unnecessary rider at the end of his ability 'Ignore this effect if opponent has no cards in hand' that seams really superfluous...
