You can't compare everything to Lightning Bolt, guys. Or any other card for this one's sake.

Workers for R&D put poor cards in sets, good cards in their decks, and throw their best cards away.

If this is the result of the dwarves' best coal... well, I'd hate to see what they sell.

Red doesn't get too many cantrips... But this is like saying that you don't get to drive Porsches very much so here's the steering wheel and you owe me 20 grand.

You guys are missing the obvious design here.
Flare is 2R. You draw one card and you do 1 damage. Obviously the colourless is to draw the card and the red is for the damage. This is a balanced spell because red is supposed to suck at cantrips.
Triple those two colourless mana = 6R. So you do one damage and draw three cards.
Wait, draw three cards? That isn't very red. Better make it do 3 damage.
And there you have a brand new magic card.

This card isn't bad at all. If you have 6 Goblin Electromancers on the battlefield, it's like a lightningbolt, AND you get to draw a card!

MTG players bring poor cards to market, use good cards in their decks, and throw this complete junk away.

"Man, I can't believe we convinced those R&D dupes we throw our best coal away."
"I know. And can you believe they took that trade we offered? Let us borrow seven of your mountains for a turn, and we'll give you a Shock and a Zap!"
"Heh. Suckers."

That's funny; I throw the Dwarves' best coal away too! What a coincidence!
